Air Activity Weekend "Joining Instructions"
Revised
05/05/2005
Finding Braid Wood camp site
Braid Wood has a
web site with some information on how to get there. It's best found from
Chesham by leaving on the Bellingdon Road, which forks off the main dual
carriageway through Chesham (St. Mary's Way). This forks left to Asheridge Road.
The entrance is on the left hand side after you've driven through Asheridge
Village. You'll probably miss it.
If you have have an OS map, it's on sheet 165 at 934 050. The Post Code is
HP5 2UU.
Times
The weekend will run from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, with Activities
starting on Saturday morning. If you wish to arrive on Friday evening and
require catering then please
let me know!
Paperwork
If Scouts are unaccompanied then please supply the organisers with any
relevant medical or other information, together with home contact details. If
you are accompanying your own Scouts then you are in a better position to handle
these matters.
Braid Wood is a Scout owned camp site and therefore does not require any
complicated Permission To Camp procedures. I have a suitable camping
authorisation. All that is required is that a Nights Away Notification
(Form-NAN) is filed with your District Commissioner. If you're not sure,
click here for one I pre-filled earlier - you
just add the number coming. If they're camping under your permit, by all means
fill in the form for yourself. Note also that you don't have to send the form
anywhere; just tell your DC what it says in any way acceptable.
Bicycles
We're planning an activity using bicycles - we'll need between three and six
bikes suitable for gently riding around a field. If you can supply any please
get in touch, and if there are enough we can go ahead.
Food
The plan is to do the food centrally, using the kitchen in the main hall.
This makes life easier. Volunteers to help with the cooking will not be turned
away! Ingredients will be provided but if you have any leftovers hanging around
in your stores please bring them along and we'll try to use them (check first if
its anything major).
Meals will be provided for omnivores and vegans (i.e. no animal products at
all). If you have anyone with dietary preferences they can choose one or the
other. The only rule is that they must stick to their choice. Please let me know
in advance.
Accommodation
We normally try to hire the main hall. This has a bunk room which is good for
cubs, but if you need to use it should be booked in advance. Otherwise, you can
bring your own tent, bivvie in the woods or just sleep in the open looking up at
the stars. If you need to borrow a tent, please
let me know as soon as possible.
Kit List
This isn't prescribed, and is left to the common sense of the Scouts wherever
possible. However, please read through the list here.
