Email Problems

Bucks Scouts appear to have been suffering from on-going email problems to all activity advisors. I am investigating the reasons for the difficulties, but anyone who's tried to email me in the last few months should be aware that their correspondence probably hasn't got through. Until its fixed, it appears that you need to email county office where someone will (presumably) print out your message and post it to me!

My telephone number still works - 020-8429-3047

Thanks, Frank.

Popham

Sat 3-Mon 5 May 2008

Camping on Popham Airfield during the Microlight Trade Fair and Aerojumble. Explorer Scouts help run the show by providing marshals. Always a good weekend; more details nearer the time.

County  Air Activities Camp

June 2008 (provisional)(Library picture - not last year's event) - Braid Wood Scout Camp Site (near Chesham)

Last May was our centenary camp, so there was really too much going on to run an Air Activities Weekend in May (what with Popham, Chilbolton, Water Weekend etc.) But we're back for 2008, and plan to be twice as good.

The programme is intended as an introduction to aviation suitable for Cubs or Scouts intending to sample microlighting, gliding or other air activities later in the year, and to fill in items in a progress awards or badges that are tricky to organise.

As at September 2007, activities planned include:

bulletModel aircraft construction
bulletA glider (the field's too small to fly it, but you can see how it works)
bulletPop-bottle rocketry
bulletAir navigation exercises (possibly involving an accurate flight simulator)
bulletBuilding and flying kites
bulletRadio Communications badge work
bulletModel aircraft demonstrations
bulletHot air balloons
bulletMeteorology badge work
bulletAircraft recognition badge work
bulletAero engine badge work
bulletWide game with aviation theme (ideas please!)
bulletGround handling of a glider (yes, someone's bringing one to try)
bulletRound-the-pole model aircraft flying
bulletAnd we're planning a few special features - watch this place

(Library picture - not last year's event)The cost in previous years has been £20, to cover food, camp fees, materials model kits and everything else and we're hoping to keep under £30 this year, allowing for some special attractions.

Please contact the Air Activities Advisor (Frank Leonhardt - ME!) if you're interested, might be interested or might know someone else who might be interested.

Chilbolton Microlight Camp

A weekend Camp with a Microlight theme. The 2007 event was postponed due to howling gales and horizontal rain; it may take place in September. In 2008 we plan to organise the weather a bit better and have moved it to June because May is too busy!.
