This page describes what a typical caving trip to Somerset will be like. There is also a separate page giving details of how to go about arranging a trip.

A typical trip starts at the Cerberus Spelaeological Society caving hut deep in the Mendip Hills.

A trip is run over a weekend, starting on a Friday night and finishing on a Sunday afternoon.

The trip is suitable for a groups of up to 20 people, and you will stay in a well-equipped bunkhouse close to a number of cave systems in the Mendip Hills.

We will provide trips on the Saturday and Sunday tailored to the experience of the Scouts, usually two caves on Saturday and one wet cave on Sunday. Oversuits, helmets, lights and other technical equipment are supplied.

A nationally qualified cave leader who will be assisted by other experienced cave leaders will run the trip.

The cost of a trip is £20 per person for everyone that goes caving and £7 per person for people that just stay at the hut but don't cave. Full payment is required when you book to secure the weekend. Payments are not refundable unless the County Caving Team have to cancel the trip.
Everyone that caves will also need to bring £1 in cash for cave access.

We have made a kit list which tells you everything that your Scouts will need to bring for a weekend caving.

You will need to provide your own transport and food, or for older members there is an eating hostelry within walking distance.
