We have run the 'Young Climbers Club' for a number of years now. The Club meets on Thursdays at Green Park climbing wall. The idea behind the Young Climbers Club is to provide the opportunity for older Scouts to come along and learn to climb, in a similar way to Leaders meeting on a Tuesday Night. The Young Climbers Club however has a more structured framework, designed to help you get more out of your climbing. We have therefore developed a staged syllabus. Each stage is designed to take about six weeks to complete (including training and assessment) once you are confident with the skills you learned during the previous stage. It might therefore take people 2 months between stages, although some people will obviously progress faster.
Most stages will be taught in six week slots, however some will also need a weekend away to a venue such as the Peak District in order to cover some of the stage. Each stage is made up of both theory and practical 'mini' sessions so a typical night at Green Park might start with a ten minute talk on a relevant topic. This would probably be followed by a warm-up and then a practical session. The evening might then finish with another ten minute talk. Progress will be recorded in a logbook which you will receive when you initially register (registration costs £10.00 and covers the cost of the logbook and other course material). To find out more about the logbook or to download additional pages, see the Logbook Resource Page. |
